Granular materials

The research on granular materials has experienced an important growth in the last few years. Such growth is a consequence of the diversity of interesting physical phenomena observed when granular materials are involved, like convection, stress propagation and anomalous flows. Besides these facts, there are numerous industrial processes of economical interest where granular materials play a central role. Examples of these processes can be found in agriculture, mining and pharmaceutical industry among others.
Our group is focusing the granular materials research in four phenomena: the flow of granular materials under the gravity influence, the propagation of solitons in one dimensional granular materials, fine powders running uphill and solid-fluid phase transition under shear.
