Complex materials show interesting mechanical
properties, an example of these materials is given
by the eggshell, which resistance is highly
asymmetric allowing to support big external forces
and weak forces from the interior, to facilitate
the birth of the bird. Within the complex materials
also we can find the cells like the axons. How the
complex materials respond to external forces?, how
the fractures in them propagate?, how the cells
move? and how they interact with the substrate?
are some of the questions which we are looking for
answers. We have centered our attention on the
mechanics and dynamics of the axons, the
characterization of the mechanical properties of
the natural bioceramics, like eggshells and "picoroco" shells and the characterization of
wrinkles in thin polymer membranes...
